Biography

Roula Vassos (c) 2003 Athanasios Menegatos
Roula was two years old when her parents first recorded her singing. Since then her passion for music has only blossomed further and can be felt through the emotions of her voice. It wasn't until high school that she realized her love of entertaining. Her friends dragged her to an audition for her school's annual talent show in her sophomore year. She earned a spot in the show and performed in it her junior and senior years as well. This also led to her being in her high school a cappella group that performed throughout the year at special events. Roula especially liked going from class to class with her group and singing carols for them during the holiday season.

Roula was then invited to sing the Greek and American national anthems at events such as the welcoming of the Archbishop at the Governor's office and various awards shows. In September 2002 at an annual ceremony for those who were lost on September 11th, she sang ‘God Bless America' and the national anthem for a group of fire fighters and police officers. Her senior year, Roula also had a role in the musical Cabaret, choosing to take part in the high school's production rather than try out for the girls' soccer team. Something happened on that stage in those years that made her want to continue performing even beyond high school.

In college, she joined an a cappella group called the 'Treblemakers'. They traveled together as guests to schools in other states, where she met a lot of people and learned how to perform in a team environment. The year Roula graduated from college, her cousin was getting married. He and his wife asked Roula if she could sing a couple of traditional Greek songs. Growing up, her dad would play a lot of these well-known songs in his car but she had never thought about singing in Greek. Roula learned five Greek songs for her cousin's wedding and the crowd really enjoyed her singing. That's where her career as a wedding entertainer began. A couple of the band members from that night kept in touch with Roula and months later she started singing with their band. She has since expanded her horizons and is currently working with many bands as a female vocalist for weddings, christenings, engagements, corporate events and conferences.

In early 2004, Roula's friends told her about the reality show Fame Story, which is a Greek version of American Idol that is taped in Greece, that were coming to New York to audition aspiring singers. Roula made it to the final round and in the process met other promising singers and the producers of the show. In April 2004, Roula was invited to sing as part of the opening act for Zig Zag, a famous Greek rock group. Roula's accomplishments and her continued enthusiasm for music serve as an affirmation of her talents and relentless drive. She is just getting warmed up.
